Introduction:

The cooler market currently offers computer enthusiasts a wide variety of products that can be placed into several different categories. There are now coolers, which have been designed, based on performance, material, manufacturing process and noise level. Some manufacturers have started producing quiet computing performance HSF's for those individuals that don't overclock their processors and won't compromise noise level for computing performance. SilverStone Technology has recently started to provide thermal solutions for the PC market with a series of cooler products marketed under the Nitrogon brand name. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new SilverStone Nitrogon NT06 CPU Cooler, a product which utilizes a unique design to cool high performance CPU's.

Specifications:

The Nitrogon NT06 CPU Cooler is one of six different units available on the SilverStone Technology website. This latest revision is comprised of a solid copper base with bonded aluminum fins and copper heat pipes. Here are some specifications taken directly from the SilverStone Technology website:

The SilverStone Nitrogon NT06 CPU Cooler arrived in black coloured retail packaging with the SilverStone logo located on front of the package. SilverStone is marketing this product as a silent high performance cooling solution with a focus on an unorthodox heatsink design. Upon opening the package, the NT06 is kept in place by a polystyrene mount along with an assortment of different compartments for the bundled accessories.

Included in the package is an assortment of mounting screws, syringe of white silicone thermal paste and components for both AMD and Intel platforms. By default the NT06 is compatible with Intel P4 Socket 478, LGA775 and AMD Socket 754, 939, 940. SilverStone also includes a useful fold out manual that includes a set of reference diagrams and instructions for mounting the NT06 on each supported platform.

The Nitrogon NT06 CPU Cooler features a 120mm branded SilverStone FM122 cooling fan. The fan is rated for 12VCD and runs at 800 ~ 2400 RPM, pushing 107.13 CFM @ 21.0dBA ~ 42.2dBA. The FM122 cooling fan includes a 2-pin header with 12V (red) and ground (black) and a single RPM sensing (yellow) wire which plugs into any 3-pin header available on a motherboard. A mini fan controller has been bundled with the FM122 allowing consumers to adjust RPM speed and noise levels to their own personal preference.
