Pressing the IP config button will open the IP properties section. Here you can choose automatic IP if your network has a DHCP server such as router, the NexStar LX will obtain IP settings automatically. If you need a static IP you can select that option and enter in the IP settings manually. Pressing the SMB server button will open the SMB area of the NexStar LX. Here you can see the directories that are on your hard drive. There are two areas here, one is the folder list, and the other is the sharing list. Here you can choose what folders to share that are visible on the network, or keep files stored that are not visible on the network. You can also assign passwords for the various folders, preventing other general users from downloading these files. The NexStar LX has a built in FTP server that can be custom tailored to suit the users needs. You can enable and disable the FTP server, allow anonymous users or assign accounts and passwords, and also control what the users connecting to the server can do, such as the ability to upload and download, or download only. In this section you can also specify what port to use. If you are behind a router or firewall, you will need to set up these devices to redirect to the NexStar LX.

Connecting to an Internal Network

The first thing the user needs to do is to upload the files they wish to share, the easiest way for most is to use Windows Explorer within the network, or for those familiar with FTP client software that is an option as well.
