Introduction:

The ire of most Home Theater PC builders is noisy PC components. There has been a boom of ultra-quiet CPU cooling designs, engineering advancements in quieter hard drives, and DC based case fans that make little more than a whisper. Quieter power supply designs have arrived online featuring bigger and quieter fans, but peak using 120mm exhaust fan designs. NMediaPC thinks there is still room for improvement in the ultra quiet active cooled PSU arena. Today in the MTB labs, we will evaluate the new NMediaPC Mute Power MP-500 Power Supply.

Specifications:

The MP-500 is a 500 watt power supply featuring a 140mm active cooling fan. With a sound rating of 25dB, this device is clearly aimed at the HTPC market. Here are some specifications taken directly from the NMedia System Inc website:

The NMediaPC MP-500 arrived in a black corrugated cardboard box, with green highlights and product illustration on the front accompanied by device features. Product specifications are printed on the sides and the back of the package is blank.

The MP-500 has an attractive black matte finish, highlighted by a gold looking fan guard. A popular and efficient honeycomb grill suggests effortless airflow. A small air opening exists on the rear of the unit, with a bundle of cables in tow.
