Ultra Products

Introduction:

Product revision is a common element that used by many manufacturers in the consumer market. A first revision product may undergo changes to fix reported issues or improve upon a model design with a brand new list of features. In some cases a revised product may provide equal or greater success over an original and find a brand new target enthusiast market. The Apevia Corporation was the first company to introduce the world to the X-QPack; a Micro-ATX based portable case designed for DIY system builders. The latest revision has recently been released by Ultra Products and marketed under the MicroFly banner. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the MicroFly Micro ATX Case, a product that offers great aesthetic design and unique functionality.

The Ultra MicroFly Micro ATX Case arrived in standard boxed carboard packaging with colourful identification labelling on the sides. Inside the packaging the case was sealed in protected plastic with 2 pieces Polystyrene located on the top and bottom of the unit.

Out of the box, my first impressions of the Ultra MicroFly Micro ATX Case after removing the packaging were extremely positive. The MicroFly like most SFF based cases currently on the market carries a small footprint measuring 15" (D) x 11.25" (W) x 9" (H). The overall design of the MicroFly can be considered an exact duplicate of the Apevia X-QPack but closer inspection reveals some subtle improvements. The MicroFly is much larger that most standard mATX based cases including A-Open, MSI, Shuttle and SilverStone. Ultra Products has slightly increased the overall size to allow system builders the ability to incorporate larger size power supplies. The case is also available in a secondary configuration which includes a triple window design located on the left, top and right side panels. Overall construction of the case consists of light weight aluminum chassis with an ABS plastic front panel. The MicroFly includes a P4 certified dual 12v rail 400 watt V-Series power supply which should be sufficient for most consumers needs.
