Out of the box, my first impressions of the SilverStone MS02 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure was extremely positive. The overall design of the MS02 is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and consists of a dark coloured brushed aluminum housing. The left and right sides of the unit are held in place with four mini mounting screws and two aluminum alloy side pieces. The SilverStone MS02 2.5" Hard Drive Enclosure is very compact measuring approximately 84mm (W) x 22mm (H) x 133mm (D). In the center of the unit is an engraved SilverStone logo while the right side has LED indicators for hard drive activity and Power.

At the rear of the MS02 is a single USB interface to adapt this product to your specific system configuration. Inside the unit is an Enhanced IDE ATA/ATAPI-6 PCB interface. The interface is a simple IDE to USB converter that allows a maximum transfer rate of 480Mbps under USB 2.0. Next to the USB interface is the location for a 5V DC power adapter. While this feature is available no AC adapter is included in this package. Instead consumers with underpowered systems can use the USB "Y" cable on two USB ports to provide sufficient power for the unit. Finally, next to the 5V DC power adapter is what SilverStone calls its "one button backup solution" which works in conjunction with the BackupKingX software application.

Hard drive installation is fairly straightforward and can be completed in less than 10 minutes. The first step is to place your 2.5" IDE hard drive into the hard drive tray and attach it to the PCB IDE interface. There are four screws that are provided in the package that allow you to secure the hard drive in place to keep it stationary. Once the hard drive has been securely installed, the hard drive tray slides back into the main aluminum housing and is secured by 2 screws on each side to seal the unit. The hard drive that I will be using in this review is a Fujitsu MHT2030AT 30GB notebook hard drive.
