Introduction:
The pursuit of expanding desktop space has forced many consumers to look for alternatives when assembling
their own personal computer systems. With the latest price reductions for LCD based monitors; multi-monitor
configurations are no longer a thing of the past. Consumers can now pair two monitors together with multi-GPU
video card solutions to experience the best of both worlds using day to day applications or gaming. In order
to capitalize on the growing trend, Samsung Electronics has recently released a series of stylish TFT-LCD
based monitors which offer multiple functions built into an all-in-one solution. Today in the MTB Labs, we
will be evaluating the Samsung SyncMaster 225BW, a mid-range 22" LCD-TFT monitor that offers a low response
time of 5ms.

The Samsung SyncMaster 225BW TFT-LCD Monitor ships in a double wall cardboard box. A product shot is
showcased on the top and side panels, along with a complete list of specifications and features. Inside
the package the SyncMaster 225BW was packed between two formed pieces of polystyrene and enclosed in a
sealed protective plastic bag.

The Samsung SyncMaster 225BW TFT-LCD Monitor is bundled with one standard 15-pin D-sub VGA cable,
DVI Digital Link cable, and a power cable. Additional accessories include an application CD that contains
the TFT-LCD monitor user guide, installation drivers and a suite of Samsung branded utilities (Natural Color
and Magic Tune). The Natural Color application software allows you to manually adjust display optimization,
colour adjustment and colour preference settings all from your desktop. Magic Tune is essentially the
software equivalent of the On Screen Display Menu which allows you to customize monitor settings from
your desktop.

Out of the box, the Samsung SyncMaster 225BW TFT-LCD monitor looks aesthetically pleasing and features a very simplistic
design. The SyncMaster 224BW measures approximately 19.9"(W) x 16.1"(H) x 8.7"(D) with the stand and has a maximum
resolution of 1680 x 1050. The LCD has a total viewable image 22 inches wide with a pixel pitch of 0.282 mm and contrast
ratio of 700:1. For consumers worried about monitor height adjustment, the 225BW has a re-tractable base that can be
raised or lowered 2-3 feet above the desktop level. The Samsung SyncMaster 225BW TFT-LCD includes a very low response
time of 5ms (Gray-to-Gray) is perfect for day to day applications or gaming. At the base of the unit is a series of
small external black buttons which allow the adjustment of the monitor settings. The buttons offer simple monitor
functions including Power ON/OFF, Auto Adjustment, Onscreen Menu, and Brightness/Contrast options.
