Here we can see the thermal probe that monitors and maintains the water temp and fan speed according to the users settings. The whole unit is finished off with an aluminum plate, that not only adds a finishing touch, but it also acts as a support for part of the coolant tubing.

Installation:

The first step is to remove your existing heat sink and fan, then locate the needed hardware from the various bags for your CPU style. There is a pre-applied layer of what appears to be Artic Silver thermal compound to the FHE (water block); I was able to confirm this after speaking to Markus at CoolIT Systems over the phone.

The Freezone CPU Cooler supports the newer AMD 939 and AM2 sockets as well as Intel 478 and 775 sockets. There is additional hardware supplied for Gigabyte boards as well. The next step is to mount the unit to your case; here is where the fun begins. The majority of computer cases out on the market use 80mm fan mountings, with more cases being made available with 120mm fan mounts. The Freezone CPU Cooler uses a 92 mm fan, with an adapter bracket for cases with a 120mm fan mount. There is no adapter for cases using an 80mm fan mount. In short if your case uses 80mm fan mounts you will either have to drill two holes, or do what I did for this review, and that is to use only two screws. The drawback to installing it in this manner is the unit is not fully supported properly and the smaller opening of an 80mm hole will cause a little more noise as air flow is restricted from the 92mm exhaust fan.
