Introduction:

The latest innovations in the computer industry often change at a rapid fire pace. Consumers are faced with an onslaught of product offerings each and every year. It's a known fact that the average computer user will upgrade at least one component in their computer system every two years. By pairing the latest home theatre applications with an assortment of available computer components, consumers are now finding it easier to integrate a PC into the living room. Zalman has been well known for their patented CNPS (Computer Noise Prevention System) and in the past has developed a series of silent computing and performance based products utilizing the latest cooling technologies. The company has recently shifted focus to cater to the needs of home theatre enthusiasts by creating a series of stylish HTPC style enclosures. Today in the MTB Labs, we will be evaluating the new Zalman HD135 Aluminum HTPC Case.

Specifications:

The Zalman HD135 Aluminum HTPC Case is one of three different units available on the Zalman website. Consumers have the option of selecting from two different colour formats (black and silver) which include an integrated VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) and remote control. The Zalman HD135 comes pre-assembled and supports both mATX and ATX motherboard formats. Here are some specifications taken directly from the Zalman website:

The Zalman HD135 Aluminum HTPC Case arrived was shipped in black and white double-walled corrugated box with the case manufacturer's logos and images printed on all sides. The front portion of the package includes several images of the HD135 while the back portion includes product specifications. The packaging inside the box was good with the case sealed in protected plastic with 2 pieces of cardboard backing and polystyrene located on the left and right side of the unit.

The Zalman HD135 Aluminum HTPC Case was bundled with an assortment of accessories which include mounting screws, motherboard stand-offs, zip ties, power cable, remote, AAA batteries, cable clamp, ODD aluminum bezel, application CD and 2 users manuals. The documentation included with this package is excellent and consists of 20-page installation guide along with a set of reference diagrams. The secondary manual covers using the bundled remote control with the CD application software.

In order to focus on the multimedia aspect of the HD135, Zalman has included a black coloured remote control and a copy of the M-Play Media Center software. The remote control is powered by two AAA batteries that fit into a removable compartment on the back of the unit.
