There is a protective layer of film on the base of the heatsink that must be removed. Locate the hardware for your particular platform and install according to the manual.

As you can see the base of the heatsink is well machined, and has a smooth even finish. The fan is secured to the heatsink by way of clips, and can be secured to any one of the four sides of the heatsink fins.

Installing the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B on my Asus A8N32-SLI DLX motherboard was a real battle. First, I had to remove the motherboard from the case, as the mounting clips are next to impossible to lock down while in the case due to the size of the heatsink. Even with the motherboard on the bench the hold down clips rest under the heatsink and are a little tricky to get at. The second problem I had was fan clearance issues all around the socket area. The fins of the heatsink overlapped my first memory slot, preventing me from installing the fan on that side of the heatsink. Another complication I had was the location of my power stage passive cooling solution, and the close proximity of the power supply restricting airflow, again rendering this side of the heatsink useless for fan installation.
