ButtKicker

Introduction:

The Guitammer Company makes low frequency sound products for theater, music, amusement, and of course personal computing settings. Based out of Westerville, Ohio, The ButtKicker® Shaker is used by Universal Studies, Warner Bros., the Backstreet Boys, Creed and Fuel, as well as home theater enthusiasts in more than 25 countries. Today we look at the Buttkicker Gamer.

Installation turned out to be more challenging then I thought it would be. My chair didn't met the minimum diameter. This was easily solved by the handyman's secret weapon - duct tape. The next concern was the wiring hook up. I could not rely solely on my intuition, and had to carefully read the instructions. An Isolator was added to the package, which only uses one of two available sets of wires on it. Actually it wasn't that difficult.

In Use:

It didn't take very long before every screw on the chair was tightened, and the armrests removed. If it can rattle, it will. But once set-up I was in for an immense experience. I had just started playing Call of Duty 2 and with this extra sensation, my heart was pounding. I felt the gun fire, the explosions, the tanks driving over my trench. Outside of the game environment, playing music brought back youthful memories of standing 10 feet in front of concert speakers. Only this time I wasn't going deaf, as the volume on my headphones was in an acceptable range. Family members watching T.V., sleeping, or even working nearby were not bother by the unit being on. The Buttkicker was a very exciting novelty with the kids. When other computer enthusiasts come over, it still draws awe. Can't usually say that too often about a product that's been on the market for over a year. To nitpick, there's a small fan on the amp which is noisy. Placing the unit under my desk muffled the noise, but makes turning the unit on and off difficult because the switch is on the back.

Conclusion:

The Buttkicker Gamer is very well made. It's a very powerful machine that you won't dare try operating wide open. It's perfect if you're in an environment where you don't want to disturb others. I thought the unit was a little gimmicky until I started using it. The price is a little steep and it's not the easiest item to find. But I did find the unit on sale for as low as USD$69.99, which is an incredible deal.

Thumbs Up! Pros:

  • More involved game-play/music listening/movie watching
  • Doesn't disturb others.
  • Fairly easy to install.
  • Solid Construction.

Thumbs Down! Cons:

  • Price
  • Fan noise
