MODTHEBOX would like to thank Terry from The Shattered Web
for sending the Coloured Window Appliqués for review.
Introduction:
Window Appliqués have come a long way since their initial introduction into the case modification scene. The item
became popular because it allowed consumers to add cool etched effects to standard acrylic windows when combined with
a cold cathode or neon tube. A few months ago MTB had the pleasure of being the first site to introduce our readers to
The Shattered Web, a company based out of Yelm, Washington. The company offers custom window appliqué designs for case
modders at great affordable prices and has now expanded their catalog to over 200 images. Today in the MTB Labs, we
will take a look at a few coloured samples from the Shattered Web stock library which can add a great look to a boring
beige case.
Specifications:
The Shattered Web now offers all stock and custom appliqués in colour which can be specified at the time of purchase.
Consumers have the choice of selecting pre-designed appliqués featured on the site or can custom order designs. The
colour selection has also increased to include red, blue, white, green, yellow, black, chrome, gold,
gold etched, red transparent, blue transparent, lime green transparent, fluorescent green, fluorescent blue,
fluorescent orange, fluorescent yellow, purple, and silver etched. Here is a small list of recommended tools that
are required:

The Shattered Web Coloured Appliqués arrived in a small padded white envelope. Inside the review package were three
sample designs: The Punisher Logo, Counter Strike Logo and the Mortal Combat Logo. The standard sizes for most of the
appliqués offered measure 7 1/2", which is the perfect size for a side panel window. The same appliqués designs can
also be reproduced in smaller sizes measuring 3 1/2", which are perfect for cases with top mount windows. To assist
with the installation, a one page reference sheet is included as well as a plastic blue squeegee.

The coloured appliqués are highly detailed and look very professional when viewed up close. The front portion of the
sample designs is translucent while the backing portion is solid white. I noticed that for the two larger 7 1/2"
samples that the adhestive side was located on the back instead of the front. This means that the appliqués must
placed on the outside of the acrylic window instead of the inside. MTB addressed this issue in our last
review and was advised that consumers can order the adhestive on either
side when you make a purchase on the website.

I only had one side panel window available for this review and decided to use the Nikao Esclipse Mid-Tower Case
which was previously featured on MTB. In order to apply the 7/12" window appliqué, the surface of the acrylic window
must first be cleaned. My personal preference for this task is to use Novus #1 Polish or Lucite cleaner, which is
available at Home Depot for $10 a bottle. If you don't have an access to either product using tap water and a soft
cloth will do the job.
